  • September 2004 - MGL secures Neighbourhood Renewal Fund (NRF) funding for the development of CHIP II. This will mean changes to CHIP to:
    • Align it closely to the Strategic Health Plan. As well as the existing view of the system, an alternative interface will let users select information about a policy theme (such as tackling heart disease), or information particularly relevant for a group (such as older people).
    • Add new information to support the Strategic Health Plan’s main themes. This will mean adding – and in some cases helping to develop – new quantitative indicators. Because some of the most valuable information about needs and services is not easy to capture in this fashion, qualitative material will also be included, using CHIP’s multi media capabilities to illuminate key issues in innovative ways.
    • Improve access to this information for the public and key workers. New ways of providing access (such as kiosks and secure terminals) in public locations, and to workers on the move (eg through mobile phones and hand-held computers) will be piloted. Awareness and use of the system will be increased through greater publicity.
  • September 2004 - MGL, as part of a consortium, has successfully bid for a major research contract to support the Manchester - Salford Housing Market Renewal programme. The Manchester-Salford Partnership (MSP) is one of 9 Housing Market Renewal areas set up to tackle the problems of housing abandonment, dereliction and poor environment in urban areas. The contract provides a Research, Intelligence and Foresight (RFI) function for MSP. This will assist in developing a robust prospectus for the next stage of the work, and to monitor the impact of the programme in the longer term.
